Why we choose anaerobic reactors not anaerobic tank in our wastewater treatment proposal?

In the context of wastewater treatment, the choice between anaerobic reactors and anaerobic tanks (which are often used interchangeably with terms like digesters or chambers) depends on several factors related to efficiency, effectiveness, and practical considerations:
1.Treatment Efficiency: Anaerobic reactors such as UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket), EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Bed), and IC (Internal Circulation) reactors are specifically designed to maximize contact between wastewater and anaerobic microorganisms.
2.Biogas Production: Anaerobic reactors are designed to optimize biogas production by providing ideal conditions for anaerobic digestion. They typically have mechanisms to enhance microbial activity and retention of biomass, which leads to higher methane yields and better biogas quality compared to less controlled anaerobic tank systems.
3.Process Control and Stability: Reactors allow for better control over the treatment process, including retention times, mixing, and internal circulation (in the case of IC reactors).
4.Space Efficiency: Anaerobic reactors often have a more compact design compared to large anaerobic tanks or digesters, which can require significant space.
5.Treatment Capacity and Scalability: Reactors can be designed and scaled to accommodate varying wastewater flows and organic loads, from small-scale applications to large industrial installations. They offer flexibility in system design and operation, making them suitable for both centralized and decentralized wastewater treatment schemes.
6.Energy and Operational Costs: While both anaerobic reactors and tanks contribute to energy recovery through biogas production, reactors generally have lower operational and maintenance costs due to their efficient design and automated processes.
